BeagleCache: A Low-Cost Caching Proxy for the Developing World
نویسنده
چکیده
The recent release of the BeagleBone Black (BBB) — a $45 Linux computer the size of a credit card and packed with 2GB of eMMC flash onboard — delivers a unique opportunity for the development of storage-intensive applications designed to run on low-cost devices. The BBB's cost and size make it the ideal platform for deployment in developing countries. Here, we consider how the BBB performs as a Web caching proxy, with intended application in countries with limited and expensive Internet bandwidth. Furthermore, eMMC is one of the least-researched forms of flash memory, and thus our investigation serves doubly to explore eMMC’s performance as a Web cache. Our results give us confidence that BeagleCache may provide significant Web acceleration in developing countries.

Behavior of WWW Proxy Servers in Low Bandwidth Conditions
Most of caching proxy servers are installed between the Internet and enterprise networks (aka the Intranet). The performance of the caching proxy server is very important for WWW service because the server handles all of the WWW transactions in the organization. In this paper, as a performance measure of the caching proxy server, we exploit the WWW object retrieval time of clients through the c...
متن کاملCOPACC: A Cooperative Proxy-Client Caching System for On-Demand Media Streaming
Proxy caching is a key technique to reduce transmission cost for on-demand multimedia streaming. The effectiveness of current caching schemes, however, is limited by the insufficient storage space and weak cooperations among proxies and their clients, particularly considering the high bandwidth demands from media objects. In this paper, we propose COPACC, a cooperative proxy-and-client caching ...

1 To reduce user-perceived latency in retrieving documents on the world wide web, a commonly used technique is caching both at the client's browser and more gainfully (due to sharing) at a proxy. The eeec-tiveness of Web caching hinges on the replacement policy that determines the relative value of caching diierent objects. An important component of such policy is to predict next-request times....

With the increasing popularity of the World Wide Web, the amount of information available and the use of Web servers are growing exponentially. In order to reduce the overhead induced by frequent requests to the same documents by local users, client caching and, more generally, proxy-caching have been proposed and are now widely used. Most implementations use traditional memory paging policies ...
